What The Customs Watch USA Covers and Why You Should Read It

In each edition of The Customs Watch USA, we provide insightful and up-to-date analysis of the latest customs, trade, and enforcement developments that have a direct impact on your business and industry. Whether you're a customs professional, an import/export business, or someone navigating the intricacies of international trade, this resource is designed to keep you informed of key regulatory changes, enforcement issues, and trade policy shifts.

Here's what’s coming up in this edition:

We have delayed the publication of this edition of the Customs Watch to cover the announcements on 2 April – liberation day as the President called it – sweeping tariffs that will make most imports into the U.S very expensive – fuelling inflation and higher consumer costs. Now we know and we have a special report on it.

Already last week, Trump issued a Presidential Proclamation imposing a 25% tariff on imported automobiles and on all countries importing Venezuelan oil. We have a blog entry and cover details including latest CSMS guidance. There is also an important guidance update on aluminum derivative products.

CBP has accounted several ACE updates including a key change in September that will withhold release for de minimis shipments exceeding the $800 threshold. We look at this in detail.

In this edition, we also cover two high profile classification court cases: Ford Motor Co. and Samsung. Both show in their own way why classification is essential. We have all the details about the duty consequences, what is the issues were and who has to pay a 600 million dollar fine for misclassification. You do not want to miss this!

Read more in The Customs Watch.

We also look at FDA import alerts affecting cosmetics, snack foods, and pet treats, while Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) strategies are being updated to optimize duty savings and ensure businesses remain compliant with evolving regulations, discover these details in The Customs Watch.

Tariff investigations continue to evolve, with final determinations being issued for ferrosilicon imports from Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia, enforcing new duties to protect U.S. manufacturers from unfair trade practices. The preliminary countervailing duty (CVD) determinations on hard empty capsules from China, India, Vietnam, and Brazil are also increasing compliance burdens for companies in the pharmaceutical sector.

With the World Trade Organization (WTO) actively engaging in digital trade negotiations and cross-border data flow issues, global businesses must prepare for further regulatory changes that will affect trade operations across borders.

We wish you a great week ahead and “happy” liberation day
