Trump Sanctions ICC, Disbanding Russia Task Force & Issue Regulation Bonfire – EU reports on Dual Use – BIS Update Conference & New AML Checks Blog
Colleagues,
Welcome to this week’s edition of Export Control & Sanctions Watch. If it wasn’t for D.T., it could have been a relatively quiet week for AML, Export Control and Sanctions!
But the latest headlines out of Washington ARE full of noise—be it the U.S. executive order sanctioning the ICC with asset freezes and entry bans, the Trump administration disbanding Task Force KleptoCapture to focus on combating drug cartels, or even Executive Order 14192 aiming to repeal regulations—we’ll cover these in this edition.
But it’s also crucial to spotlight other developments in export control and sanctions that might be more relevant to businesses and professionals in the field.
For instance, the European Commission’s first annual report on Regulation (EU) 2021/821 reveals enhanced dual-use export controls, stricter Russia sanctions, new cyber-surveillance guidelines, and the introduction of the Dual-Use e-Licensing System (DUeS), with a remarkable €57.3 billion in authorised exports in 2022.
Or what about the upcoming Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) 2025 Update Conference on Export Controls and Policy, happening from March 18-20, 2025? Will I see you there?
Speaking of seeing you in the U.S., I’ll be in New York next week to launch our Customs Manager Ltd U.S. office. Will you be in New York next week? Reach out and let’s meet up.
And, of course, we’ll take a closer look at the state of current economic sanctions and export controls on Russia and Belarus in response to the invasion of Ukraine, with insights provided by our good friends at BakerHostetler LLP.
Turning to AML updates: After last week's Part 1: AML: 12 Key KYC/CDD Checks on Private Business Partners, we proudly present you Part 2: AML: 4 KYC/CDD Checks for Foreign Businesses. KYC and CDD checks are vital for international trade with complex structures of your foreign Business partners. We present the top 4 essential checks for legal entities.
I wish you a great weekend
